Taking a Compliment !

It is always so lovely to receive positive feedback from a customer, kind words are lovely, compliments often stun me and being typically British embarrass me (it is generally accepted we do not take compliments easily)

“A genius is a person who displays exceptional intellectual ability, creativity, or originality,

Well believe this or not this is actually how a lovely new customer referred to my skills this week . Flattering as it is and always welcome I thought I would share what I had done that she felt warranted this lovely remark. I had before Christmas come across a mish mash of vintage pine tables and chairs… the chairs had to literally to be dragged out of my hands as I fell in love with them when I first saw them and that relationship then blossomed as I worked on them with brushes and the amazing Annie Sloan Chalk Paint(™).

Transformed from Trash to a Total Treasure

This is something I have wanted to do for sometime…the picture was in my mind now I had to translate it into the real thing,

Working full time doing something you love is very rewarding but never more than when you get to play with something thats been in your mind for such a while. Taking my passion for recycling this really is a classic case of taking something totally solid from the trash and transforming it into something truly gorgeous and useful . It has given me such pleasure working on it. This bespoke unique seat once assembled has been given a couple of coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Old Ochre then a lovely warm clear wax.  It did at this point distress itself so I let the cloth do the distressing and I am very happy with the result.

The addition of  the  shelf below add both stability and a useful spot for nick nacks etc. Finally finished off with the most beautiful Postcard fabric from Clarke and Clarke.

I am now working on a totally “pinkified ” one for a little girls bedroom and I am very excited to see how this turns out, I will be taking orders with colours and fabric chosen to order…and the cost…. well I believe a very reasonable price of £99 and dont forget no one else will have one quite like yours……….Chris x

Complete Chic makeover

It is always so rewarding when a customer returns for more….this in itself  has to be the reassurance we all need that we are getting it right. So when a regular customer entrusted her lovely furniture to me I knew I had to get it right. They were already lovely pieces, a lovely coffee table and a side dresser. All stained in the lovely pine colour we have all come to recognise and those black buttons. We started by rubbing down and applying Annie Sloan Old Ochre Chalk Paint.  The tops where stripped back to their original wooden state and a lovely light oak dye applied. All finished off with a lovely coat of beeswax and then a coat of Annie Sloan Clear. The lovely bonus to these pieces is that Alison really wanted a little table to place her monitor on and we were able to find a small table from the same range that matched perfectly, which we treat in exactly the same way.

These pieces are a prime example of how you can totally change the appearance of an item ensuring use for many moreyears to come.  We also hope this is a typical example of the standard of work we carry out at Preloved

“Thank You so much for what You have done to My furniture Chris, highly recommend this lovely lady to buy or chic up your furniture, amazing. x”

Thank you Alison for trusting us with it  Chris x

Caroles Corner Cupboard !

There is nothing more rewarding than when a customer steps forward and shares their lovely furniture and how happy they are with the end result.

” Love what Chris did to my corner unit!! Looks fab, thanks so much “

This piece was a lovely hand me down from Caroles mum and dad. After standing rather sheepishly in the corner they decided they wanted to give this lovely old pine cupboard a shot at a new lease of  life. And thats where Preloved stepped in. After stripping back and treating, a couple of coats and waxing of Annie Sloan products Old Ochre being the colour,it was allowed to speak for itself when it came to the distressing. Allowing the sandpaper to take from where it wanted the piece has been beautifully transformed into a modern chic piece with oodles of character that will stand proudly in the family home for years to come.  A pleasure to work on.Before and After

A Chip of the Old Block

I am so very fortunate to work with materials I love and of course wood has to be my favourite. I have lived my life around wood as my father was a joiner and  many of my childhood years were spent going to work with him .I am sure that is where my love of wood and making things came from….although when plastic windows came in the very early seventies my dads response was  ” Plastic windows…they will never take off “!!!.   So my project today has been an absolute delight to work on and as yet is not quite finished.

A very sad unloved solid butchers block in a very sorry state. After hours of sanding painted and applying buckets of pure tung oil to the block it is finally been brought back to life with a bang. After two coats of Annie Sloan Old White and a wax this piece is truly on its way back to its former glory. The addtion of a new handle which I have yet to choose will finish this piece of perfectly, and it will then be able to serve a busy kitchen for years to come. Hope you love it as much as I do. X
